Luckily for the marine community, we are not starting from scratch, and so the situation is not nearly as bleak as is painted in the report. As you know, the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN) has been hard at work over the past fourteen
years addressing these priorities and actively pursuing solutions to some of the challenges raised in the report. Consequently, the UK boasts:</p>

Although it is disappointing that the report fails to recognise MEDIN’s major contributions in this area, I see this as an opportunity. By sharing MEDIN’s achievements with members of the marine community who may be less familiar with the network, we can increase
