<div>Dear colleagues,</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I am writing to get your opinion on one of the elements in the MEDIN Discovery Metadata Standard (<a href="http://www.oceannet.org/marine_data_standards/documents/medin_schema_doc_2_3_8.pdf"><font color="blue"><u>http://www.oceannet.org/marine_data_standards/documents/medin_schema_doc_2_3_8.pdf</u></font></a>)
. The element, 10: ‘Spatial data service type’ is currently marked as ‘Conditional’ in the Standard, but the text description of the element states ‘Mandatory if the described resource is a service’. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I wonder whether you all could give me your views on whether you can see circumstances where this element could be applied to datasets or series, or whether you all consider it as applying to services only? The equivalent GEMINI 2.2 element carries a note
that it is not applicable to datasets or series. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>If the latter, I will amend the Metadata Standard so that it is reflected as mandatory for services only and not applicable to datasets or series.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Many thanks</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Sean</div>
