<div>Attached is an Excel workbook with seven individual worksheets that represent my preparation of the ICAN Coastal Erosion ontology (or at least all of it I can find) for ingestion into the NERC Vocabulary Server to facilitate the semantic demonstration
at the ICAN Workshop in Ostend at the end of August. At a later stage I will augment this with another version linking directly to MMI ORR URLs to research/demonstrate semantic resource extension as part of our NETMAR brief.</div>

<div>The seven sheets are:</div>

<li>OCA_Markup – the leaf nodes from Tania’s draft Oregon Coastal Atlas (OCA) ontology taken from the MMI ORR. These are terms that I envisage labelling OCA data resources (layers, datasets, etc.)</li><li>OCA_Discovery – the terms used to build a classification hierarchy for the OCA leaf nodes</li><li>OCA_Mapping – Internal mappings expressed as the guts of RDF triples for the OCA ontology concepts</li><li>Global_Discovery – The ICAN Global Ontology top concepts (again taken from MMI ORR)</li><li>Global_Markup – The ICAN Global Ontology leaf nodes</li><li>Global_Mapping – Internal mappings between ICAN Global Ontology top concepts and leaf nodes</li><li>OCA_Global_Mapping – Mapping between the OCA leaf nodes and ICAN Global Ontology Leaf nodes</li></ul>

<div>The plan is to ingest this lot into the NVS as 2 or 3 concept collections and expose the whole lot as a single concept scheme with the ICAN Global Ontology top concepts as its top concepts. </div>

<div>I would appreciate any comments on the overall mapping strategy (other than why I used Excel as a tool rather than XML-based technologies such as VINE which has more to do with the aversion of an old dog to new tricks than anything else), but even more
so on the specific mappings in OCA_Global_Mapping. I am a little outside my comfort zone here and any guidance is more than welcome!</div>

<div>If we are to make Ostend then I need to do the ingestion in the week beginning August 15, so please let me have feedback by August 12.</div>
