Dear Platform Group,

A request has come in for a code for the vessel Polar Duke from NORWAY

Original Requester : Roy Lowry (rkl@bodc.ac.uk)

Proposed Code : 58PD
Name : Polar Duke
Flag : NORWAY - NO (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : LACS4
Platform Class : Research vessel
IMO : 8200838
Commissioned Date : 1989-12-08
Decommissioned Date : 2008-11-10
Current Length : 66.65
Built : 1983
Notes : 2D seismic data acquisition vessel operated by Rieber Shipping AS. Rebuilt to 2D seismic in May 1998. Sold to CGG group in 2005. Became Duke in 2008.
Information Source : http://www.rvinfobase.eurocean.org/spec/vessel.jsp?id=3737 (URL)
Lloyds URL : http://www.lloydsmiu.com/lmiu/vessels/overview.htm?vesselID=162443

Same Vessels Info
58DI - Duke

Important Comments (Conflict to be resolved!):

http://www.rieber-shipping.no/?page=69&show=353 Question as to whether this vessel was ever called "CGG Duke" (Lloyds).
(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 11/12/2009 00:00:00)

The Norwegian Ship Registers NIS/NOR is a governmental ship register responsible for administration of norwegian laws on the matter. Therefore, the NIS-NOR should be formally (legally) correct. According to the web of the manager (and former owner) http://www..rieber-shipping.no/?page=69&show=353 Polar Duke was built for the company. The Rieber Company has (or had) a daughter company in Canada (St. Johns, Newfoundland), and the changes in (about) 1989 were probably transactions between companies with common owners (or no change of owner?)
(added by: Oyvin Strand - 11/12/2009 00:00:00)

This suggestion will need confirmation by NOAA.

Kind regards,
The ICES Data Centre

International Council for the Exploration of the Sea
Email: accessions@ices.dk
Web: http://www.ices.dk

Tel: +45 3338 6718 Fax: +45 3393 4215
H.C.
