Dear Platform Group,

Can our Canadian members verify the dates for this essentially Norwegian vessel, the Polar Duke? Information has been added but confirmation on Canadian flag dates would be appreciated as NODC also has questionable dates.

Existing Code : 18PK
Name : POLAR DUKE
Flag : CANADA - CA (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : VOGB
Platform Class : Research vessel
IMO : 8200838
Commissioned Date : 1984
Decommissioned Date : 1988
Current Length : 66.65
Built : 1983
Notes : Confusion over dates between Canada and Norway.
Information Source : http://www.rieber-shipping.no/?page=69&show=353 ()
Lloyds URL : http://www.lloydsmiu.com/lmiu/vessels/overview.htm?vesselID=162443

Same Vessels Info
58DI - Duke
58PD - Polar Duke

Important Comments (Conflict to be resolved!):

The Norwegian Ship Registers NIS/NOR is a governmental ship register responsible for administration of norwegian laws on the matter. Therefore, the NIS-NOR should be formally (legally) correct. According to the web of the manager (and former owner) http://www..rieber-shipping.no/?page=69&show=353 Polar Duke was built for the company. The Rieber Company has (or had) a daughter company in Canada (St. Johns, Newfoundland), and the changes in (about) 1989 were probably transactions between companies with common owners (or no change of owner?)
(added by: Oyvin Strand - 11/12/2009 00:00:00)

NODC has the 18PK Polar Duke with reference to confusion over dates between Norway and Canada.
(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 11/12/2009 00:00:00)

Kind regards,
The ICES Data Centre

International Council for the Exploration of the Sea
Email: accessions@ices.dk
Web: http://www.ices.dk

Tel: +45 3338 6718 Fax: +45 3393 4215
H.C.
