Dear Platform Group,

Code 35D2 has been approved by NOAA/NODC for the vessel Arago from FRANCE

Original Requester : Roy Lowry (rkl@bodc.ac.uk)

Approved Code : 35D2
Name : Arago
Flag : FRANCE - FR (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : FAGY
Platform Class : Naval vessel
Commissioned Date : 1968
Decommissioned Date : 1974
Current Length : 59
Notes : ROSCOPS at ICES are from 1968
Notes: Previous Name : Somali
Information Source : http://www.defense.gouv.fr/marine/content/download/44605/445106/file/arago%20P675.pdf (URL)

Multiple Hull Info
35A6 - ARAGO

General Comments:
FAGY call sign approved by NOAA/NODC.
(added by: Don Collins - 15/12/2009 00:00:00)

Question on callsign: NODC has FYCV, not FAGY
(added by: Don Collins - 05/03/2009 00:00:00)

There is some confusion about the vessel to which the USNODC/ICES ship code '35A6 Arago (FAGY)' refers. There are two possibilities.

A destroyer named Somali converted to an 'experimental vessel' in 1968 and renamed Arago active until 1974.

A survey ship active from 1991 until 2002 when she was converted into a maritime patrol ship.

I know SISMER have 1 CSR record mapped to 35A6 dating from 1968. If anybody else has dated metadata associated with this code could they please let me know so thet we can assign the correct extended metadata to the code.

(added by: Roy Lowry - 04/02/2009 00:00:00)

Kind regards,
The ICES Data Centre

International Council for the Exploration of the Sea
Email: accessions@ices.dk
Web: http://www.ices.dk

Tel: +45 3338 6718 Fax: +45 3393 4215
H.C.
