Dear Platform Group,

A request has come in for a code for the vessel TAO from GEORGIA

Original Requester : Kakha Bilashvili (wocean@telenet.ge)

Proposed Code : GETA
Name : TAO
Flag : GEORGIA - GE (ISO Country Code)
Platform Class : Research vessel
IMO : 8727331
Commissioned Date : 1990
Decommissioned Date : 1996
Current Length : 34
Built : 1985
Notes : Data from 1990-1991 for Hydrometservice of Georgia now The Centre for Monitoring and Prognostication of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources. Sold in 1996

Lloyds URL : http://www.seasearcher.com/lmiu/vessels/overview.htm?vesselID=278184

Same Vessels Info
90T4 - TAO

General Comments:
From Evgeny at Meteo.ru: Unfortunately, one cruise for "TAO" and "????????" ships is in our DB only (http://data.oceaninfo.ru/meta/cruisecat/catalog.jsp?q=2&n=0&orgId=82&l=ru).
No detail information for these ships (http://data.oceaninfo.ru/meta/vessels/index.jsp?query=&country=97&dept=&type=&req=&action=searchShips)
After 1991 our centre did not receive oceanographic data from Georgia.
(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 27/04/2010 00:00:00)

Previous name of Tridakna is possible but not enough information to confirm this is the same vessel as 90T6.
(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 27/04/2010 00:00:00)

There is a code 90T4 for a TAO from 89-01-06 to 91-12-31. Is this the same vessel?

Lloyds refers to the "Tridanka" as a previous name for the TAO/Al Furat I with IMO 8727331. Can this be confirmed that this is a previous name? We have a code 90T6 for a "Tridakna" 89-10-08 to 89-10-22. Spelling is different - is it a different vessel?

(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 26/04/2010 00:00:00)

TAO (SEINER/RS) was sold on auction in 1996 by the local Ministry of Economics to one of Arabian countries (most likely Syria). They can not say for sure. As you, probably, know, Al Furat is the Syrian Petroleum company and uses several vessels of various kinds. I think, that Al Furat is former TAO and, thus, is the same vessel.
(added by: Kakha Bilashvili - 18/04/2010 00:00:00)

Is the Al Furat I the same vessel as the Tao? IMO according to Lloyds is 8727331. http://www.seasearcher.com/lmiu/vessels/overview.htm?vesselID=278184
(added by: Marilynn Sorensen - 18/03/2010 00:00:00)

This suggestion will need confirmation by NOAA.

Kind regards,
The ICES Data Centre

International Council for the Exploration of the Sea
Email: accessions@ices.dk
Web: http://www.ices.dk

Tel: +45 3338 6718 Fax: +45 3393 4215
H.C.
