Dear Platform Group,

NOAA has approved the code for the vessel Veafisk from NORWAY.

Original Requester : Vigdis Rong (Vigdis.Rong@imr.no)

Proposed Code : 58VF
Name : Veafisk
Flag : NORWAY - NO (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : LIZF
Platform Class : 36 Fishing vessel
Commissioned Date : 1984
Decommissioned Date : 1997-01-27
Current Length : 40.142
Built : 1961-05-25

Additional Information Sources:

- http://www.nis-nor.no/S%C3%B8k/hoved.browse.aspx?path=%2fhome%2fs%C3%B8k%2fskipaktuelledata&layout={09922BC8-02D1-4E3F-8ECE-931D820A34EA}

General Comments:

It seems the ship Veafisk (LIZF) was sold to a foreign owner (Vanuatu) in 1996 it was then sold back to a Norwegian owner 03.08.2004 (Callsignal LACT6, IMO: 5225851) and then transferred to the Norwegian ordinary ship register (nor) on the 11.10.2004 when it got the callsignal LMWJ and IMO 5525851.

In nis-nor.no you can find Veafisk by searching for callsignal LIZF, the two Cevita entries by searching for only IMO and choosing all under “status vessel”. They are all built at Kårbø Mek. Verksted AS in 1961, and by looking in the other registers you are referring to it would seem that they are the same ship (though there is no registration about the name changes Veafisk went through prior to it being sold to a foreign owner)..

In the IMR registers we only have information about the ship when it was named Veafisk and had the callsignal LIZF in the years 1985–1986 and 1989-1996. We only register information about ships when we actually collect some kind of data from them. One of the entries about the ship has an old ICES shipcode (ICES5823) if that helps.
(Sjur ringheim Llid 16/10/2012 00:00:00)

Code 5823 referred to by Sjur for the Veafisk does not exist.
(Marilynn Sorensen 16/10/2012 00:00:00)

Code 5823 referred to by Sjur for the Veafisk also does not exist at US NODC.
(Don Collins 16/10/2012 00:00:00)

Did Veafisk become the Cevita IMO 5225851? http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=257390000
http://www.vesseltracker.com/dn/ShipPhotos/369940-Cevita-5225851.html
(Marilynn Sorensen 11/10/2012 00:00:00)

Miramar confirms http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=257390000 that names have been Markusson, then HAVSTAL, then SJOVARDEN, then VEAFISK, then CEVITA, GOLDEN SUN, NINA, and CEVITA but dates differ.
(Marilynn Sorensen 11/10/2012 00:00:00)

http://exchange.dnv.com/exchange/main.aspx?extool=vessel&subview=previousnames&vesselid=03679 confirms previous names. Only NIS/NOR does not show the link between Veafisk and Cevita.
(Marilynn Sorensen 11/10/2012 00:00:00)

As the NINA, mentioned on greenpeace webpage: http://archive.greenpeace.org/oceans/southernoceans/expedition2000/gallery
(Marilynn Sorensen 11/10/2012 00:00:00)

Kind regards,
The ICES Data Centre

International Council for the Exploration of the Sea
Email: accessions@ices.dk
Web: http://www.ices.dk

Tel: +45 3338 6718 Fax: +45 3393 4215
H.C.
