<div>Dear Rob, SeaVox and Platform group,</div>
<div> </div>
<div>ICES approves of adding "drillship" to the SeaVox Platform Categories since this will standardise reporting and only involves changing an attribute on the relevant vessels. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Note that we will rely on the Platform Request program for this information (<a href="http://vocab.ices.dk/Request/">http://vocab.ices.dk/Request/</a>). </div>
<div> </div>
<div>If "drillship" is not currently in the attribute "<i>N</i><i>ote</i><i>s</i>", we will expect platform group members to add the new category by submitting a new "<i>P</i><i>latform class</i>" attribute to the relevant vessels via the program. Please do
not send emails with this information. The Platform program has a tool that will inform ICES of the attribute change and need for action.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Kind regards,</div>

Subject: SHIPC2015-10-15 [Seavox] FW: Request for SeaVoX Platform Categories - drillship</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Hello,</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Apologies for any cross posting between the SeaVox and Platforms mailing lists but we feel both need to be consulted before implementing the following request.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>We have received a request from the Geolink project <<a href="http://www.geolink.org/">http://www.geolink.org/</a>> for the addition of "drillship" to the L06 collection (SeaVox Platform vocabulary). Therefore we would like to be able to add the following
term:</div>
<div> </div>
<div>PrefLabel: drillship</div>
<div>Definition: A drillship is a merchant vessel designed for use in exploratory offshore drilling of new oil and gas wells or for scientific drilling purposes.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The change may impact on ICES as a significant number of drill ships are likely already mapped to L06 categories. Therefore new code would need to be accommodated and the mapping revisited.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Hence the posting to both mailing lists so the consequences of this proposed change can be clearly understood.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>One of the objectives of L06 was to classify surface vessels by the type of science they do, and drill ships do a particular type of science. That would be one argument for making the addition.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Does anyone have any objections to making this addition?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Cheers</div>
<div>Rob</div>
