Actually, I want to use both :</p>

<li class="x_MsoNormal" style="">L05 in the metadata CDI files where I would like to distinguished XBTs from MBTs</li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""> L22 codes in the data files on the SDN_parameter_mapping lines where I will add the L22 codes of the XBT or MBT used.</li></ul>
<p style="margin-bottom:12.0pt">The generic L22 codes could also be useful for us for managing
<b>old historical</b> <b>data</b> where we do not find the exact type of XBT that was used, which unfortunately happens quite often.</p>

<p><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">A generic XBT entry could be set up in L22. I don't like generic entries because they encourage short-cuts when creating metadata. It's much easier to use a generic concept than do the research necessary to
obtain a more precise description of the data production tool. However, I do concede that there are times when no amount of research will provide the necessary information and a generic concept has to be used. A note to all is that this should be considered
as a last resort. There are times - such as drop-rate equation corrections - where detailed knowledge of the XBT type is important. </span></p>
