[Edserplo_users] Edserplo keeps hanging

This seems to be associated with the time series page. I have a session on my own PC which is locked-up. If it were in a loop it would consume appreciable resources I would think. It doesn't appear to. When iconised my java.exe (see processes on task list - cntl-alt-del) is running at not much more than 1MB, de-iconised it is 12MB. If we could get it to do so in JDeveloper (the development tool we use) then it might be relatively easy to sort out but I fear it will not be possible to do so.

Anyone who experiences the problem should see me and continue the screening on my workstation within JDeveloper to see whether we can trap the problem that way. I suspect we won't be successful so we need alternatives.

1) I need to research the situation. I can look in the Sun discussion fora and pose queries if need be (talk to Rashid!)

2) The problem has come about, so it seems, with the latest update. Look at the differences in coding. A great many changes were made but mostly to Edteva-type processing.

3) Revert to the earlier JVM (1.4.2_10). The problem might go away.

4) Upgrade my version Java to 1.5. Ditto

I have been trying to use Edserplo today, loading 11 individual files (no driver, no settings file) from /users/sdb/cobs_moorings/maf050151/qxf, but the session keeps hanging and has to be closed down and restarted.

The program has just hung for the fourth time in an hour. This has happened within 5-10 minutes of opening the sessions (so it's not due to session getting tired and timing out) and no text appears in the error message window. The hanging happened randomly doing such things as going from series page to time series display; minimising the session and clicking another window on the desktop (eg a Word document) and then going back to Edserplo; flagging something and then trying to switch off the edit mode.

Im reporting this because last week one of the other data scientists was having similar problems, so it is not a totally isolated incident...

Thansk
