[Medin_dacwg] Update on actions

Hi Mark,
My understanding is that the bathymetry data on MDE for the Argyll and Atlantic arrays is already at UKHO.

I have pasted an email below from you that confirms this.
Robin

Hi Robin,

As I said at the last DAC meeting, we have never (thus far) charged anyone for archiving any data in our Bathy DAC, and so we cannot easily give a cost. The table is correct in that we already have the multibeam data, and there are no other datasets of relevance to us.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, at least in the short term. I could ask Judith Thomas to provide a figure for how much it would cost to spend x number of hours working on a dataset, but again this would not be very helpful as it would depend on the size, complexity and quality of that dataset as to how many hours might be required!

Hi Pete,

I see that item 12 doesn't list the UKHO Bathy DAC as taking MDE data. If I recall correctly, this is because there isn't any bathy data in scope. If that's right, the action to supply an estimate isn't relevant for us. Or have I got this all wrong..?

Hi all,

I believe that action 12 was in relation to archiving data from the Marine Data Exchange. I have so far received only 1 quote for archiving data (thank you Emma).

I will be unable to fund or test this unless all DACs are able to provide this estimate. It would also be extremely useful to let me know whether it would be a one off cost (i.e. a change to a database to accommodate / change to an extract/transform/load tool) or a per dataset cost.

Thanks,

Pete

Subject: [Medin_dacwg] Update on actions

Dear MEDIN DAC Working Group,

I am following up on actions from the last DAC WG meeting in December (and ongoing actions from earlier meetings).

Please could you review the list of actions below and report on progress for any actions that apply to you.

Many thanks,
Robin

ACTION LIST

Action

Progress

1.

Following Clare/Lesley review, send a template to DACs that lists UKDMOS monitoring programmes; DACs to check list and identify the programmes where DACs should be/are publishing and where other services are publishing.

2.

Lesley and Robin to complete DAC reaccreditation work by end of 2015.

3.

Dan Lear to plan and arrange provisional date for a technical workshop. Need to be able to report progress on this at next MEDIN Exec (3rd Dec).

Done. Workshop on 19 Jan 2016.

4.

Clare to draft a short statement for MEDIN Exec detailing the DAC view on archiving products. DACs could archive a fixed product but would prefer to focus on getting data into archive so that products can be created. The DACs approve of the concept of signposting existing products.

5.

The funding of small scale (£5k) projects has been extended. DACs to submit proposals for additional projects to Clare by 13th November 2015. Decision on funding by end of November, projects completed by end of 2015/16.

6.

DACs to check the annual report and feedback any corrections to Lesley (by end December).

7.

Dan Lear to check the statistics for DASSH in the annual report and feedback corrections to Lesley (by end December).

8.

DACs provide input to Hannah Williams to indicating which INSPIRE themes are applicable to their data to include on MEDIN website

9.

Clare to check with Joanna Whittle if MEDIN is still to be the conduit for Cefas FishDAC data to data.gov.

10.

Jens to attempt to re-engage NI with the FishDAC.

11.

Dan to advise the IFCAs of the MEDIN workshops and raise possibility of running a tailored workshop.

12.

Those DACs (BGS, BODC, DASSH, Met Office) that have indicated they would archive data need to submit a proposal to say which data sets they will archive and what the cost would be. The deadline for submitting the proposal is 18th December and the work should be carried out by the end of the FY.

13.

Clare to make MEDIN Exec aware that progress is being made on archiving some of the MDE data sets but that there are others that are not covered.

14,

DASSH to provide feedback on the proposed options in Paper P6, with a view to how their helpdesk would cope (by end December).

15.

Lesley and Clare to follow up website improvements with Hannah and come to next DAC meeting with a revised plan for improvements.

16.

DACs to look for Defra data in their holdings that meet these criteria and let Clare know (by 3 December for number of data sets and 18 December for completion of spreadsheet - see e-mail of 1 December from Clare).

17.

Robin to poll for dates in April 2016.

Done. DAC WG on 28 April 2016

Actions outstanding from DAC WG meeting held on 14th July 2015

Action

Progress

1.

Clare and Mary to decide on deadline for MCZ/MPA draft plan and costing.

3.

Clare to circulate the portal specification and user requirements to the DAC Working Group.

5.

Hannah to include relevant RCAHMS information on the MEDIN web page.

13.

Hannah to request 4 images from each DAC and give information on the format required. Then to mock up some pages and circulate them before the next meeting.

14.

Hannah to consider suggestions for meeting for improving DAC webpage and decide on improvements to make.

15.

Clare to arrange an autumn workshop in Scotland with MPA organisations to ensure suitable data management plans are in place. Should involve BGS, DASSH, JNCC, SNH, Marine Scotland, Natural England and any other DACs that are interested.

18.

Clare to speak to JNCC about possibility of them becoming a Bird DAC.
