[Medin_dacwg] coordinate reference system - INSPIRE requirement?

Dear DAC Working Group colleagues,

The MEDIN Standards Working Group held a meeting back in November, after the Mega-meeting. One of the items that was raised for discussion was about the mandated use of the European Union ETRS-89 coordinate reference system for INSPIRE compliance.

I have attached the paper the SWG discussed in relation to this. Our end conclusion was that the mandating of ETRS-89 as a coordinate reference system for INSPIRE compliance did not impact metadata standards, but may have implications for yourselves in the realm of view and download services.

I am aware that some of you already have your data referenced against ETRS-89, but the SWG felt it would be wise to highlight this issue to the entire of the DAC Working Group.
