Dear MEDIN DAC Working Group,
We are holding a free HBDSEG (Healthy & Biologically Diverse Seas Evidence) Workshop on 6th March 2019, to share knowledge and experiences on the infrastructure, standards and publication mechanisms that are currently in place, and planned for the management of biological data. The aim is to obtain a clear understanding of the current landscape, identify synergies, overlaps and gaps and define data flow pathways within the HBDSEG community.
Following this, a free MEDIN 'hackathon' will be held on 7th March, 2019 for developers and scientists to get hands-on with open, marine environmental datasets. This year focussing on data held within the UK Directory of Marine Observing Systems (UKDMOS<http://www.ukdmos.org/>). We'll have a standalone copy of the underlying database and teams and individuals will be tasked with producing new tools, visualisations, services and applications using this and other open datasets. You can use any programming language, or tools that you're familiar with, and we will be hosting the outputs on a MEDIN server to share with the community.
The aim is to have prototype outputs completed within the day. We will start at 10am and finish with presentations at 4.30.
Both of these events will take place at the University of Liverpool in London, 33 Finsbury Square, London EC2A 1AG.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a maximum of 20 spaces available for this event, please indicate your attendance on this Google Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IFSP2Zka8vU6ixa7driBpMb7ZoP-6Dj3e1ytOBdrXSc/edit?usp=sharing and state any dietary requirements.
Kind regards,
Charlotte
