Dear DAC colleagues,
Last July I sent out the message below in order to inform some of the work being proposed for the Standards Work Stream. I unfortunately did not receive responses from all of you, and I'm also aware that we are now a year on and organisational capabilities change.
Could I therefore ask you please to respond to the enquiry in the email below?
Many thanks
Sean

Subject: [Medin_dacs] ability of DACs to handle positional data in various forms
Hi,
Sean from MEDIN Work Stream 2 here. As a result of some discussions at the last MEDIN Standards Working Group meeting, we have been looking at the feasibility of capturing positional information in guidelines in formats other than simple CSV files. Examples of more complex positional geometries include GIS shapefiles, WKT, KML, Oracle Spatial etc.
However, before we expand the guidelines to encompass these other positional types, MEDIN need to understand the capabilities of the DACs to handle them. Therefore, can I please ask that each DAC responds to me with a list of the different positional formats that they are capable of handling?
Many thanks
Sean
