Dear MEDIN Working Groups,
I want to draw your attention to a demonstration of video annotation software used by Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) that I have arranged for some members of the MEDIN Standards Working Group. Recognising that this may also be of interest to members of the other working groups, I am extending the invitation.
The online demonstration session will be held on December 17th at 16:00 by Zoom.
Note, MEDIN is arranging this demonstration as a knowledge sharing event. It is not a recommendation to adopt the software being demonstrated.
Let me know if you are interested in joining the session and I'll make sure you receive the joining instructions.
Best wishes,
Clare
Background
For video annotation, ONC uses a software system called SeaTube which allows both vessel-based and onshore scientists to annotate dive video in real-time, with all data synchronized and updated in real-time as well.
The annotations themselves can be structured using either a standard taxonomy (i.e. WoRMS<http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=search>), a custom one that may be organization specific, or subsets/combinations of those.
In addition to specifying a specific taxon, uses can also add a free form comment if they desire.
Extensive attributes can also be attached to each annotation (i.e. life stage of the organism, count, etc.)
In addition to providing the ability to structure annotations with defined vocabularies, SeaTube also fuses all the data available with a particular point in the video, including ROV and vessel-based sensor information (ROV and vessel-based sensors including navigation and environmental sensors).
