Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to a workshop: 'Improving access to marine environmental data using an Application Programming Interface (API) standard' organised by the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN). This will be an online workshop to share the outputs from two projects trialling the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) Environmental Data Retrieval (EDR) API standard for marine data.
The workshop will be held online on 10th November 2022 from 14:00-16:30 GMT.
Further details are included below, along with the agenda.
Please email me (cfpo at noc.ac.uk) to register for the workshop and feel free to circulate the invitation to any colleagues who may be interested in attending.
Best wishes,
Clare
Background
The Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN) is a collaborative partnership established in 2008 to improve access to and management of UK marine data. MEDIN’s vision is that all UK marine data are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). A key objective for MEDIN is to support the UK marine sector to implement globally and cross-domain interoperable marine data services. An example of such a service is the use of standardised Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) across our Data Archive Centres (DACs) and wider partnership.
This workshop will showcase the outputs from two pilot projects that implemented and stress tested the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) Environmental Data Retrieval (EDR) API standard for marine data. We believe this is the first time that this new API Standard has been used with marine environmental data.
This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about applying the OGC EDR API standard to marine data. It will cover the technical implementation of the standard as well as the project recommendations. Fundamentally, we hope to answer the question ‘Is the OGC Environmental Data Retrieval API standard appropriate for marine environmental data?’
