James/All,
Thanks for these.
Also attached the notes from a meeting of the British Standards Committee for Geographic Information (GI) (further info on the group at: http://www.agi.org.uk/bfora/user/systems/sig/view.asp?sig=285&arg=1) which I attended on behalf of the MEDIN Standards WG on Monday.

It is clear that we have a chance to influence GEMINI2 now. Also ISO19115 (the discovery metadata standard upon which the MEDIN discovery standard is partly based) is undergoing revision which we may be able to influence through a MEDIN Standards presentation at an ISO/CEN meeting next month. On top of all this there will apparently be further guidance on the INSPIRE discovery metadata standard due anytime now (if anybody sees this can they send it round the group?).

Based on previous analysis of the various discovery metadata standards that we must be compliant with and as a starting point for discussion I propose

for GEMINI request:
Elements for Metadata Standard Name and Version to be included (this is generally good practice)
Scale to be an option for the element spatial resolution and further guidance on this element especially if the metadata describes a single point
INSPIRE conformity and Specification - change to align the occurrences with INSPIRE
Limitations on public access element should give the full list that INSPIRE allow and should the element
Originating Controlled Vocabulary - while we have communicated on this previously with the GEMINI2 folk about it being occurrence of 1 in GEMINI it may be useful for other users to clarify that it is possible to have many lists from which one or more terms may be specified.

for ISO19115 request:
Include an element for the date last checked for accuracy as well as the date of last updated
Scale to be an option for the element spatial resolution (or at least allow encoding to describe it as such)

Hope this helps as a starting point for discussion.
Mark

Subject: [Medin_standards] UKLP MWG Meeting Report

Members of the MEDIN Standards Committee,

Please find attached my report of the 3rd meeting of the UKLP Metadata Working Group.

Please note the action around GEMINI2 - amendments to INSPIRE technical guidance are driving the need to amend GEMINI2. I shall be involved in this process. The view is that any changes will be minor clarifications, will not be radical and that GEMINI2 shall be amended. The meeting at which this shall be discussed is scheduled for 29th April - I welcome comments from you before that date which I will be happy to feed into the meeting. To facilitate this process I have attached a document detailing issues I am aware of in GEMINI2. If you have any further issues to add to this list please let me know.

The amendment process is subject to agreement from AGI that responsibility for the configuration management of the GEMINI metadata standard is transferred to UKLP. UKLP is in the process of seeking agreement.

Best regards,

James
