Hi James,
I have just had a quick look at the Location Programme metadata creator tool but accessed it via http://location.defra.gov.uk/2010/10/launch-of-uk-location-metadata-editor-beta/ If I am honest I was not impressed by it (clunky and strange links (click to put in a contact and it opens an e-mail window) and not easy to use) but it is a only a Beta version so I hope it would improve in the future.
It is attractive to some that we can provide MEDIN compliant metadata through this Location Programme tool which I imagine would not be that difficult as it would just be the enforcement of some fields and incorporation of specific vocabs. In particular, for the likes of some who are having difficulty justifying using a different standard from the basic GEMINI2.1 then if the LP tool can also spit out MEDIN compliant metadata then it would help their cause. I do not think we have sufficient information now to make a decision if we should request the LP tool be adapted so what I suggest in the short term is we get further specifics on how the tool could be made to deliver MEDIN metadata, how, and to what cost.
I am still attracted by MEDIN for a desk top tool as other users have specifically also requested this - i.e. SeaZones metadata maestro. Perhaps once you can provide us a demo version of this then we can explore further how this can be supported in the longer term and at what approximate cost.
I am also in mind that we do not want too many different tools that it becomes confusing for a user which to use to produce metadata - this may be a case of good/clear presentation on the MEDIN website.
Best Wishes
Mark

Subject: UKLP Metadata Creator
Hi all,
Here are the details for the UKLP Metadata Creator test instance:
http://46.51.184.85/geonetwork/srv/en/admin
u: medin
p: r07ArkRoyal#1
Once logged in:
1) Click "Administration and Metadata Creation"
2) Click "New metadata"
3) Select "MEDIN Dataset Template" from the drop down
4) Click Create which takes you to the data entry page.
For now can you please limit access to yourselves. If the results of your review look promising we could consider requesting that a MEDIN group is set up - at the moment the account is within the SeaZone group.
Kind regards,
James
