Dear All,

Sorry to have missed you in Peterborough, but the draw of the Costa del Yorkshire was just too great.

Before I went on holiday, I was sent a couple of draft keyword sets to be included as alternative markup lists under the 'Other Keywords' heading in Element 11 of the metadata format. One of these was from Becky with socio-economic keywords, which looks very good. This proposes four new markup lists:

Governance designation sub-categories
Governance objective sub-categories
Monitoring activities
Environmental pressures

In addition, two more vocabularies were included in the proposition - high level keywords(possibly a P23 extension?) and Environmental Pressure Themes - that would link these four markup vocabularies into a thesaurus.

There are a few issues of detail - which I'll try and catalogue and send to Becky next week - but these could be quickly resolved. Once this is done, I see no problem with loading these keywords into the Vocabulary Server (it would need about a day of my time), making them accessible for inclusion in discovery metadata records. Note, I'm not sure how inclusion would be done in practice as I'm not sufficiently familiar with the details of the tools, but I think having the vocabs accessible through the Vocabulary Server would be a useful first step. Consequently, unless anybody has any objections I would propose aiming to do this by the end of August.

The second submission I received - a set of keywords associated with offshore wind farms from EDP Renewables - requires significantly more work to build some kind of semantic organisation into the term list and deal with issues such as mixing of geographic and non-geographic concepts. I'll start to do some work on this, but following the low-hanging fruit principle I'd prefer to give a higher priority to Becky's lists. Hopefully, this is agreeable to all.

Cheers, Roy.

Please note that I now work part-time from Tuesday to Thursday. E-mail response on other days is possible but not guaranteed!
