Subject: MEDIN harvesting
Hi Both
Paul rang earlier and we got on to discussing the site survey harvesting issues to MEDIN.
A summary...
Harvest failed last week. We still use OAI to send our records to MEDIN. Steve would prefer we use CSW as it is more stable.
This FY, James Passmore has a task to update the BGS CSW server (based on geoNetwork). When that's done we'll be able to host multiple separate groups of records that can be harvested by different portals and so we can move to CSW for MEDIN.
At the moment though, OAI it is and it's a bit flakey. If there's an issue with one record, it fails to harvest all records.
The latest site survey update had 4 new records. On Monday, I took these records out and got Steve to try a harvest. It worked. During this week, I've been adding the new records one at a time and waiting for a reharvest. They have all now gone in and harvested fine.
So why did the original harvest fail? No idea.
I'll speak to Steve about how we might get better notifications of harvest failures.
Thanks
Patrick
