Hi Hans,
Nice to see things moving. I will try and read through your specification by the end of the week and let you have any comments. I've replied to the list as there are people like Lesley keeping a watching brief on the traffic.
Susanne/Julie - any suggestions for additional list memebers at this stage such as our friends from the US?
Cheers, Roy.

Dear Roy,
Susanne and Hans are now fully devoted to Ship Codes - and will continue
until all problems are solved and RECO has been duly enhanced.
Attached please find our Specification for enhancement of RECO. It
basically contains what we discussed, and we have made a separate table
for the proposed "Notes" , however for 'country' and 'platform class'
we will be using the RECO structure already in place. That is ship codes
will be related to a 'country' code list and a 'platform class' code
list through many to one relations.
We expect to complete programming activities by September 1.
Status on Ship Codes:
1) A note on Ship Codes accessible via RECO now states that those
codes should only be used for screening Environmental data (see
http://www.ices.dk/datacentre/reco/reco.asp , look up 'SHIPC' )
2) Ship Codes will be disabled from from our website soon, you
will hear from Susanne when it is done, which will probably be later
today .
3) We have received a list of the US-NODC ship codes and Susanne
is working on getting it into shape .
4) Susanne will send you our list together with the US-NODC ship
code list tomorrow at the latest. Afterwards Susanne will be looking
into BODC ship codes.
5) Thanks for setting up the mail group. We will send information
on all changes and considerations on ship codes to this mail group .
As you mentioned, correcting the ship codes is a lengthy process. It is
unlikely they will be perfect by September 1, but we will have the
process to do so down pat by then.
Please let us know if there are any other actions or items necessary to
achieve sound governance on the ship codes.
Kind regards,
Julie & Hans
