Dear all,
This is the BODC part 4, and I am pleased only to have a very few items
left!
However, I don't have time to deal with these today, as they are a
little complicated. I hope to send these to you when I am back from my
vacation on 14 August.
I will appreciate it very much if you could kindly indicate to the
'platforms list' if you can agree or not to my
suggestions/comments/solutions, as we at ICES will not implement
anything before then. You only need to list the name of the ship
followed by a Yes or No or whatever.
Thanks and the best summer greetings to all of you,
Susanne
ICES740U RV Noctiluca University of Swansea research vessel.
Commissioned 2001. CallSign ZNAL9
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: We can agree to the code for the Noctiluca to become 740U, and this
code is not used by NODC either.
Please update the lists.
ICES740V RV Roagan Port Erin Marine Lab, IOM/University of
Liverpool research vessel. Built in the
Netherlands 1982, major conversion 1991.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: We can agree to the code for the Roagan to become 740V, and this
code is not used by NODC either. The call sign is MNCN7.
Please update the lists.
ICES740W HMS Scott H131, Royal Navy hydrographic vessel,
launched October 1996, still in service
as at Jan 06"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: In June 2004 ICES allocated 74E6 to the HMS Scott, call sign GCUP on
request from the UK Hydrographic Office, Taunton.
We have problems now, as the NODC has allocated 74E6 to the Samarang.
NODC:
Platform id: 9783
Name: Samarang
NODC Code: 74E6
OC5 Code: 8150
I can find information of a HMS Samarang operating in the 1840s. If this
is
the same ship, I suggest to keep 74E6 to the HMS Scott, and maybe
allocate
Roy's suggested code 740W to the Samarang instead. I don't like to
change
the code for the HMS Scott. Let me know what you think.
(We also have a vessel 'Scott', coded 74ST, call sign LNXZ3 on the ICES
list,
and this ship was also on the NODC list back in 1992! We have 6 stations
from September 1961 from this ship.)
ICES740Y 74PS RL RL Sepia Owned by NERC, Plymouth Marine
Laboratory, operated by Serco
Denholm
Ltd. Built 1967, in service as
at
Jan 06. CallSign MYUT
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: In February 2005 ICES allocated 74PS to the Sepia, all sign MYUT,
hence
we can not accept the suggested code of 740Y. CEFAS requested this code.
NODC has not made a code for the Sepia and 74PS is not used either.
Please update the lists.
ICES740Z 74 RV Vigilance Environment Agency, National marine
Service.
Built 1990, in service as at Jan 06.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: In February 2005 ICES allocated 74VC to the RV Vigilance, call sign
MLCA5 on request from CEFAS.
Problems as NODC has used the code for the Blossom:
Platform id: 10329
Name: Blossom
NODC Code: 74VC
OC5 Code: 7508
Do you Mitch have any information on the Blossom, and is it possible to
use
the code 740Z instead of 74VC for the Blossom? Please let us know.
ICES7401 RV Water Guardian Environment Agency, National
marine
Service. Built 1992, in service
as at
Jan 06.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: In February 2005 ICES allocated 74WN for the Water guardian, Call
sign:
MPUJ4 on request from CEFAS.
Please use 74WN for the Water Guardian, as this code is not used ny the
NODC,
and the ship is not on the NODC list either.
Please update the lists.
ICES7402 RV Aplysia University Marine Biological Station,
Milport
(UMBSM), Scotland. Built 1977, still in
service
as at Jan 06.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: This ship and suggested code are not used by ICES or NODC, hence we
can
accept the code 7402 for the Aplysia. I have found the call sign to be
ZMXC.
Please update the lists.
ICES7403 RV Bernicia Small mutli-purpose research vessel
owned and
operated by the School of Marine Science
and
Technology, Univ. of Newcastle Upon
Tyne.
Built 1973, still in use as at Jan 06.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: The Bernicia is not on the ICES list, but NODC has coded this ship
as 74MP. Mitch do you have any information on this ship?
I have written to the university to get the call sign, and have heard
that
the call sign is MLER.
It seems likely that it is the same ship, but do you Mitch have any
info to confirm this? Please let us know.
NODC:
Platform id: 10207
Name: Bernicia
NODC Code: 74MP
OC5 Code: 7922
ICES7405 RV Callista Coastal research vessel owned and
operated
by National Oceanography Centre,
Southampton.
Built 2005, in service as at Jan 06.
CallSign MJUS7
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: This ship and suggested code are not used by ICES or NODC, hence we
can
accept the code 7405 for the Callista.
Please update the lists.
ICES7406 RV Bill Conway Coastal research vessel owned and
operated
by National Oceanography Centre,
Southampton.
Built 1991, in service as at Jan 06.
CallSign MNAT6
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: This ship and suggested code are not used by ICES or NODC, hence we
can
accept the code 7406 for the Bill Conway.
Please update the lists.
ICES7407 RV Triton Trimaran, sold to Gardline maritime
survey
company in 2005, multi-role survey
vessel.
Among other projects she is being used
as part
of the Civil Hydrography Programme on
behalf
of the UK Maritime and Coastguard
Agency.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SR: We have a 74TT for Triton on the ICES list, but no data or
information.
NODC has this entry too.
The RV Triton was launched in 2000, hence she can't be the same ship as
NODC & ICES have coded as 74TT, since this code was on the list already
back in 1992. ICES can accept Roy's suggested code of 7407, and this
code
is not used by NODC either.
I have written to the Gardline company to get the call sign, and will
let you
know following their reply.
