Thanks Alessandra,
We had reports that the Italian ship named Thetis had sunk from Lloyds, but there was no mention of casualties. It is very sad when this happens and unfortunately it seems to be happening more often in oceanography these days.
It is now clear that Marilynn needs to set up a code for the CNR vessel and that Anne needs to correct the callsign for the ship linked to the PRISMA ROSCOPs from DRHA to IJQS.
Cheers, Roy.

Dear Roy and all,
the ship Thetis used for the cruises named PRISMA-1 and PRISMA-2 was an
Italian ship, owned by CNR.
I think that the correct call sign is IJQS, as Row supposed. We don't
have the ship code up to now.
Unfortunately 15 days ago there was a collision between the ship Thetis
(working with an oceanographic research cruise in the Sicily strait) and
a container ship. The Thetis sunk very rapidly and 1 researcher died. I
give you the links of Italian article from the web (I hope you can
understand the meaning), talking about the accident:
http://www.moebiusonline.eu/fuorionda/Theti.shtml
http://www.stampa.cnr.it/documenti/comunicati/italiano/2007/Agosto/122_AGO_2007.HTM
We need to fix a ship code for the Italian ship (probably it has to be
included in the catalogue as not working anymore) and correct the ROSCOP
directory that now describes the activity with a German ship.
With kind regards,
Alessandra

Now this is a German callsign, which makes me suspect that the ship used might well have been the German Thetis (062Z). The cruises with project names PRISMA-1 from May 1995 to March 1996 (long cruise!) and PRISMA-2 from May to June 1998 had OGS involvment (M Gacic). Alessandra, can you confirm she was the German ship? Anyone else have any information about the German Thetis?
