Hi Marilynn,
Here is the threatened second batch of POGO ships with no codes:
Ireland: Celtic Explorer: Marine Institute Galway research vessel built 2002, active as at Jan 07, callsign EIGB, length 65.5m.
Japan:
Mirai: Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) research vessel built 1972 as Mutsu, renamed Mirai on 2 Dec 1996. Operated by Global Ocean Development Inc. Active as at Mar 07, callsign JNSR, length 128.58m.
Kairei: Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) research vessel built 1997, active as at Apr 2007, callsign JRZH, length 105m.
Chikyu: Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology research drill ship. Built in 2005, active as at Mar 07, callsign JRAJ. Operated by Global Ocean Development Inc. Length 210m.
One final point. There is some controversy, even within naval sources, over whether 'Dom Carlos I' actually carries the name 'D. Carlos I'. Can anyone provide absolute information on what is actually written on the side of the ship? One bit of additional information is that her pennant number is 'A522'. I assume we have accepted the code 68DM.
Cheers, Roy.
