Asunto: Hesperides callsign
Dear All,
The callsign for BIO Hesperides in the ICES list is EDPQ. However, there
are frequent and authoritative references to her having the callsign EBBW.
I have also come across associations of EDQP with a ship called Carmela B.
The number of references Googled for each callsign is about equal, but the
EDPQ references can be tracked down to a common source - the ICES list. All
dated references to EDPQ I can find are after 1991 when the current
Hesperides hull came into service.
This means that either the callsign in the ICES list is wrong or something
happened in the past that I don't know about. Unless anybody can come up
with additional information (I've copied this e-mail to Maria Jesus Garcia
at IEO to see if she knows anything) I suggest we change to EBBW.
Cheers, Roy.
