49Y9, Chikyu, country Japan, IMO9234044 (Lloyds), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology research drill ship.  Built in 2005, active as at Mar 07, callsign JRAJ.  Operated by Global Ocean Development Inc. Length 210m.

49NZ, Mirai, country Japan, IMO6919423 (Lloyds), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) research vessel built 1972 as Mutsu, renamed Mirai on 2 Dec 1996.  Operated by Global Ocean Development Inc.  Active as at Mar 07, callsign JNSR, length 128.58m.

Note that a Japanese vessel with the same call sign "JNSR" exists here as the "Mutso". I have added a note to the Mutso questioning the name. It may be the same vessel: previous name Mutsu of the Mirai.
