Dear Roy and Mitch,

I have looked into Oceanic and NODC codes for Kaiyo and compared them to ICES codes.

ICES proposes to:

1) Add information to the existing code: 

49BE, call sign 8LYT, Kaiyo, country Japan, 1964/03 - 1993/09, pennant HM06


2) Create the following codes:
49Q1, callsign JKOY, Kaiyo, country Japan,  1948-05 to 1964-03, pennant MH01
49Q2, callsign JRPG, Kaiyo, country Japan,  built 1985-05 to present, IMO8223684, JAMSTEC research vessel, length 62 m
49F5,  callsign JGBF, Kaiyo, country Japan, 1993-10 to present, pennant HL05, IMO9058737, research vessel, built 1993, 60 m

3) Designate two existing KAIYO codes as "multiple hulls":

49B5 (currently no information) with link to 49BE, 49Q1, 49Q2, 49F5

49XK (conflicting information) ICES=8LYT, NODC=(8LYT), Oceanic=JGBF. Link 49XK to 49F5 and 49BE.
