Dear Roy,

Do you think it is necessary to inform the Dutch Navy Hydrographic Office about allocating codes to their vessels? If so, who should do this? ICES would not have that kind of information. And what about all the other Navies out there?

Cheers,
Marilynn

Dear all,

There used to be a Dutch Navy surveyor ship LUYMES. It was in service between 1952 and 1973.
This may very well be the ship which had ICES code 64LU.
The Dutch Navy number was A902
For some nice pictures go to: http://www.pbase.com/te_linde/hr_ms_luymes&page=1

In 2004 or 2005, the new Luymes was commissioned.
According to the official Dutch navy web site, this vessel has a length of 75,0 m (maximum length overall)
A beam of 13.1 m and draft of 4.0 m.
The displacement is 1875 tonnes.
Dutch navy number is A803.
More info (though in Dutch): http://www.marine.nl/nlmarfor/schepen/mijnendienst/hydrografen/Luymes/scheepklasse/

The ICES code 64LY is OK for this new vessel, but perhaps we also should inform the Dutch Navy Hydrographic Office about allocating code numbers to their vessels?

Your next question wil probably be about the sister ship of the LUYMES, HNLMS Snellius.
But that will need a bit more time to answer, since there has been a whle series of ships called Snellius.

Cheers,

Taco

Dear all,

Could someone help with the Netherlands vessel LUYMES?

ICES code 64LU - LUYMES has existed at ICES at least since 2000. The POGO list gives a build year of 2003. I have found on Lloyds SeaWeb a reference "originally Scheldt 392".

I suggest a new ICES code 64LY for the HNLMS Luymes, call sign PAUF, Built 2003, research vessel, length 81.42

Is 64LY OK for everyone?

Kind regards,
Marilynn
