[Platforms] TRIDENS Resolving past errors

Hi Taco,
I think we are saying the same thing. We have one hull (1991-) with one name, which already has a code (64TD).
We have a second hull operating for the gas/oil industry under the name Tridens 1, for which the code 64T1 has been pretty much accepted.
My request is for a THIRD code to cover this hull when it was operating as Tridens from 1968-1991.
If we don't give new codes when the name changes history goes out of the window. For example, the UK ship RRS Charles Darwin (code 74AB) has been sold and renamed Ocean Explorer. If we had renamed code 74AB then about 200 NERC cruises would suddenly chave changed identity from Charles Darwin to Ocean Explorer, which is not good!
Cheers, Roy.

Sorry folks: two ships, two hulls, two names:
Tridens -1968-1991-operated by Fisheries Institute of the Netherlands,
sold to Chase Seismic Survey B.V.
(http://www.css-denhelder.nl/frm_info.htm) in 1991, renamed into Tridens
I, now a survey vessel for the offshore oil and gas industry
Tridens - 1991 - , operated by Fisheries Institute of the Netherlands (new
ship, new hull, same name)
Both vessels have contributed data to the ICES databases, so there should
be two different codes.
I'll find out about the call sign.
Please wait for me before taking decisons concerning the Dutch research
vessels, I'm in a much better position to find out about their history.
Cheers,
Taco

Hi Marilynn,
One ship: two names.
Let us call 64T1
<class>research
vessel</class><commissioned>1991-04-15</commissioned><previous_
name>Tridens</previous_name><notes>Research vessel owned by Chase Seismic
Survey BV. Built 1968 as Tridens, renamed Tridens I 15 Apr 1991. Length
60.85m, callsign PIAO. Active as at Mar 07.</notes>
This means we are just short of a code for this ship when she was operated
under the name of Tridens by Fisheries Institute of the Netherlands
between 1968 and 1991.
Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy,
Is it correct that you are saying that the proposed 64T1 really refers to
two ships? Could you/someone supply the attributes?
Cheers,
Marilynn

Hi everyone,
I have checked with Lloyds and have found the following for Netherlands
TRIDENS and TRIDENS I:
1) Existing NODC/ICES code: 64TD, name TRIDENS, Built 1990, Call sign
PBVO, Notes: IMO8821852, length 73, owner NE govt.
2) New ICES code: 64T1, name TRIDENS 1, Built 1967 (note not 1993 as in
spreadsheet), Call sign PIAO, Previous name TRIDENS (changed in 1990),
Notes: IMO6812833, length 61, owner Chase Seismic Survey BV

Dear All,
As I try to rationalise the ship codes for POGO I keep running into the
confusion caused by ships being renamed.
Problem 1: Beautemps-Beaupré
We have code 35BB which seems to be connected to the current French naval
survey ship (pennant A758, commissioned 2003). Worryingly I have a note
about a 35BB launched in 1939, so it looks like we have another case of a
code transferring from one ship to another.
I propose that we keep the code 35BB for A758 and have a new code labelled
up for the old 'Beautemps Beaupré', which I don't think had the hyphen.
Note the the the name in RECO for 35BB has no hyphen, which I think is
incorrect.
Problem 2: Tridens
I think we are now clear that the history is that there was a fishery
research vessel called Tridens, which was sold to a commercial outfit and
renamed Tridens I. A new fishery research vessel came on the scene and
inherited the name Tridens. Again, the code (64TD) was passed from one
ship to another. I think that we need 3 codes here, but we only have one.
My suggestion would be:
Keep 64TD for the current fishery research vessel Tridens Set up a new
code for commercial survey vessel Tridens I Set up a new code for the
original Tridens when she was operating as a fishery research vessel
Is everyone, particularly Michele and Taco, happy with this?
Cheers, Roy.
