Dear All,

Before we were SeaVox there was a SeaDataNet vocabulary development group that discussed amongst other things a platform class vocabulary (list L061). This was fed into the MMI platforms ontology, which was passed to the JOI ORION team who delivered some feedback.

The MMI term 'VerticalProfiler' for things like Argo floats was recommended for replacement by 'ProfilingBuoy'. As we use 'drifting subsurface profiling float' I think we're covered.

They also asked for 'autonomous surface water vehicle' to cover unmanned surface vessels to be added. Unless there is adverse feedback I'll add this with the definition 'A self-propelled platform operating on the surface of the water column in unpredictable locations that is without human occupants'.

There was a problem with the term WaterBasedPlatform that seems to have been derived from the SEA-SEARCH CDI, but I don't recall it and seem to have missed a trick whilst we were building the MMI ontology. If anyone can shed any light please let me know.

For those of you who want to look at this list asis, go to the Vocabulary Server client (http://vocab.ndg.nerc.ac.uk/client/vocabServer.jsp) and scroll down until you see the list 'L061'. Check the radio button and hit the getList button at the bottom of the page.

Cheers, Roy.
