Note that initial results of the MOTIIVE project will be presented at
CoastGIS'07 in Santander, Spain, 8-10 October 2007.

Please also note that the conference once again will include papers and
presentations on advances globally regarding coastal and marine Spatial
Data Infrastructures.

By the date of the conference, the initial Metadata and Data
Specifications draft INSPIRE Implementing Rules will be available from
the European Commission's INSPIRE Drafting Teams. We will take the
opportunity of CoastGIS'07 to present these drafts and perhaps convene a
workshop (if there is sufficient interest from participants) to discuss
the specifications, examine the ramifications of the Implementing Rules
for those organisations based in EU Members States, and prepare feedback
to the Commission from the coastal/marine GIS community via EUCC - The
Coastal Union - who are one of the registered INSPIRE SDICs (Spatial
Data Interest Communities) in the marine/coastal information arena.

BE WARNED! According to Article 9 of the INSPIRE Directive,
Implementing Rules, including those for data and metadata, become
legally binding on those public organisations based in EU Members
States, who must legally adopt the rules not later than 2 to 5 years
following the date the INSPIRE Directive comes into force, which will be
mid-March 2007. Thus, for 'hydrograhpic' and 'protected areas' datasets
(Annex I data), this is March 2009 and for bathymetry, coastline (Annex
II) and all other marine, oceanographic, coastal (including ICZM) data,
by March 2013. If you or your organisation are unsure what this means in
practice - and in law! - be sure to attend CoastGIS'07 to learn more.

Please pass this information on to your colleagues and feel free to post
to related SDI or marine/coastal information web sites and e-mail lists.
Thank you in advance for supporting CoastGIS.

Kind regards

COAST GIS 07: GIS TECHNOLOGIES AND SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURES FOR THE
INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF COASTAL ZONES AND THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT

The organizing committee invites you to attend CoastGIS 07, the 8th
International Symposium on GIS and Computer Mapping for Coastal Zone
Management. The conference will take place in Santander, Spain, between the
8th and the 10th of October, 2007.

This is the eighth of a series of conferences with an important
international scope (up to 30 countries from all continents). The CoastGIS
conferences began in 1995, and the last host was the city of Wollongong,
Australia, during which over 80 papers were presented. Other important
venues have been Cork in Ireland, Aberdeen in Scotland, Brest in France,
Halifax in Canada and Genoa in Italy.

Over 200 professionals from the GIS and/or coastal management fields are
expected to attend, representing a wide range of academic, governmental and
commercial interests. The main objective of this conference is to create a
meeting place in which the most relevant issues and the newest breakthroughs
in GIS applications for littoral and marine environments will be tackled by
internationally renowned experts.
