Unable to replicate behaviour, even with the serplojar.jar which was being used
at the time. Thus it looks as if the problem is more fine-grained than I had
appreciated. 

Note that if you fail to select any series or alternatively any channels it
says so. If you don't select anything it says 'No series selected'. If you
select a channel not present in a series and only that series it says 'No
channel selected'. What I got was 'No data to plot' which can happen if the
time axis is shifted some way from the start of the series - but as the series
are co-terminous this wasn't the case either.
