[Medin_dacwg] DEFRA Data Accelerator Project

Dear MEDIN DAC WG,
At the meeting at the beginning of November we discussed the DEFRA data accelerator project, whereby DEFRA want to release 8,000 new datasets as open data by June 2016. It is an excellent opportunity for MEDIN DACs to demonstrate how they are already helping DEFRA achieve their aims.

I need to provide DEFRA with evidence that MEDIN can help DEFRA deliver on their plan. To help with this I'd be grateful if you could:

1)      Search your data holdings to identify how many datasets you archive for the following organisations. Please use the definition of dataset that you work with within your own DAC. If possible I'd like to take these numbers to the Exec Team meeting on Thursday 3rd Dec but I appreciate that might be too short notice!

2)      For the data that are Core DEFRA (ie owned by DEFRA) please complete the attached spreadsheet to identify the datasets you archive for DEFRA. I'd be grateful if you could do this by 18th December so that we can let DEFRA know what a good job we are doing making their data openly available. You'll see that they also want the URL to the data (if direct access to the data exists please make sure you use the right URL), if the data is available under OGL and if the data could be published on data.gov.uk. (Remember MEDIN can pass metadata to data.gov on request, we just need the go ahead from the data owner).
