[Medin_dacwg] (Some) clarification on Core Trust Seal umbrella status for MEDIN

Dear MEDIN DACs,

I have now had confirmation from Core Trust Seal (CTS) that it is NOT possible to extend the time period for all organisations under an umbrella (MEDIN) to gain CTS accreditation in order to qualify for the umbrella discount. This is an issue for MEDIN as it moves from its own accreditation (with a 5 year duration) to Core Trust Seal accreditation (with a 3 year duration), as we have the minimum organisations required for an umbrella discount (10). MEDIN will not push its DACs to apply for CTS earlier than would be required under the MEDIN accreditation timescale during this transition period. Looking at the timeline for accreditation/re-accreditation, It is clear that:

1) Organisations applying for CTS accreditation during 2020-21 cannot use umbrella status (or discount). This applies to:
•Historic Environment Scotland (first CTS accreditation)
•UK Hydrographic Office (first CTS accreditation)
•DASSH (with support from FAIRs FAIR) (first CTS accreditation)
•BODC (first CTS accreditation)

2) MEDIN can only apply for CTS umbrella discount for the DACs if ALL DACs agree to submit their CTS accreditation/re-accreditation under MEDIN umbrella (from 2021 onwards)

Please can all MEDIN DACs confirm whether, from April 2021 onwards, they will be happy to submit their accreditation to CTS as part of a MEDIN umbrella. I'm conscious that you may need significant discussion within your organisation to determine this, so please respond by 18th September.

Regardless of the outcome of the umbrella discussions, MEDIN can cover the administrative charge of applying for CTS, (so HES, UKHO, DASSH and BODC should let me know asap if this will be required this financial year).

Best wishes,
Clare
