[Medin_partners] Call for volunteers - MEDIN STAG How best to create linkages between metadata in the MEDIN portal and UKDMOS (UK Directory of Marine Observing Systems) and data in the MEDIN Data Archive Centres.

Dear MEDIN colleagues,

The Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN) are looking for volunteers to decide how best to create linkages between metadata in the MEDIN portal and UKDMOS (UK Directory of Marine Observing Systems) and data in the MEDIN Data Archive Centres.  This will be done using a Short-Term Activity Group (i.e. Task and Finish Group). This group will be short lived and will focus entirely on this discrete activity.


Background
The MEDIN portal holds metadata records of datasets whereas UKDMOS is a searchable database of the marine monitoring programmes and series conducted by UK organisations. Currently, a user is unable to move between the portal and UKDMOS.  Within the portal, there are direct links to DAC data via the 'Locator URL'.  UKDMOS  however has no links to the metadata in the MEDIN portal with only a small proportion of  'Real-time data URL' and 'Archive data URL' fields populated by URLs. Ideally, a user should be able to move effortlessly between the programme of monitoring that generates data and the data itself and vice versa.
