[Medin_standards] review of draft MEDIN guideline for geotechnical site investigations

Dear MEDIN Standards Working Group,

Please find attached the first full draft submission of the guideline for geotechnical site investigation, from Cathie Associates. There are some notes from their project manager below, explaining some of the choices they have made.

Could I please ask that you review the documentation and get any feedback to me before 30 March, so that I can compile everything for return to Cathie Associates on 30 March.

Areas that are of particular interest would be


(i)                  how well the draft guideline meets the original specification (which I have attached as geotechnica_data_specification_v1.doc).

(ii)                Usability of the guideline

(iii)               Clarity of examples and descriptions

(iv)              Technical accuracy

I appreciate that, as you all come from a variety of backgrounds, you may not all be able to provide feedback on all the above points, but MEDIN will welcome any contribution you can make to the review.

I have noted ourselves as authors, however there is a great deal of generic text relating to MEDIN, which appears standard across the guidelines. I am not sure how this should be best acknowledged, I will leave to MEDIN.

Assumed some fields relate to MEDIN activities, highlighted in red: Reviewed by, Date Reviewed, Date approved and published, Date last checked for accuracy

Keywords: As our contents are so extensive, the individual keywords would be rather a big chunk of text. I have put the overarching 'Geotechnics' keyword from the list as an umbrella term for brevity, but please flag if the larger list would be preferred.

Guidance (pg 13 and under Heading)

I have included a full guidance section as found in some other guidelines, as I personally have found it useful and it provides some additional background information. But then, I also liked how some of its content was put in relevant places through the offshore litter guideline... so I have not amended the guidance section, and will wait for the review period and preferences from yourselves on whether to keep a uniform section or migrate the text to where it best fits.
