We at BGS are meeting this morning to discuss this matter. Although this
whole situation started before I joned BGS, my personal view is that NERC
got us into this mess and are allegedly washing their hands of it. However,
I have yet to see any official correspondence from them - has anyone?

Is there any NERC library that has signed up (or is planning to sign up) for
Science Direct for 2004 and, if so, on what terms? The service has been
heavily used at BAS since it was introduced last year and there will be many
cries of anguish from distraught scientists if it is withdrawn. On the
other hand, Elsevier's suggested prices are a barrier to renewal. So it
would be interesting to know what other Centre/Surveys are planning.
