Dear Ship Code people,
I have today disabled the ICES Ship Code list from our web site and sent
Roy the most recent NODC list, the callsign.dump. txt file and a copy of
the ICES codes as of today 7. July 2006. Mitch has also got a copy of
the ICES version.
How I see the work to continue is:
>From now on, any corrections, new allocations, possible deletions etc.
to any of the lists we have, should only be made by Mitch, Roy and me -
and most important especially with respect to new codes - only by mutual
approval.
We can start with an example from an email I just got from Mitch:
******
"
The Canadian ships Teleost and Acadia have the same radiocallsign. This
is incorrect. I talked to the Canadians and they say they have been
aware of this and they have been trying to stomp it out for years
(errors in our list - nothing that Canada has done) ACADIA, NODC Code
18AI, should NOT have a call sign. The TELEOST, a Canadian Coast Guard
Cutter, NODC Code 18TL has a radio call sign of CGCB."
******
This mean the following actions will have to take place:
I will remove the call sign CGCB from the 18AI ACADIA, and make sure
that the
18AI TELEOST has the callsign CGCB included. (I have checked, and it is
listed there).
What is strange to me is the fact that the callsign is only listed in
the NODC list under
ACADIA (and this should now be removed by Mitch and Roy in their
versions), but it is NOT listed under the 18AI TELEOST IN the NODC list
as it should be, as the ICES version is an older copy from NODC!
However, I will assume that Mitch and Roy will now enter this in their
versions. Mitch also included some information on the TELEOST, "Canadian
Coast Guard Cutter" and I will also guess that this information is to be
added as well to the comments field, by Mitch, Roy and me.
Marilynn is also on this mail list, but I will work closely with her
with respect to the transfer of information to RECO.
It is getting rather complicated, but I am sure we will manage in the
long run.
Please let me know if I am unclear in any way, and please also complain
if I am wrong in any way!
Best wishes for a nice and sunny weekend ahead,
Susanne
