Dear all,
Below please find a new entry and comments which I received from Mitch a
while ago.
I was not sure how to deal with the renaming here, but have tried to
list how I will do here.
Before I go home today I will send yet a list of codes - this time all
about the BODC codes, which I hope to finalise this week, as I will have
2 weeks vacation from Monday 31. July.
The info I got from Mitch:
>Here is a recent looney from the ship code business: We have the
commercial ship HAWAII, radio call sign KIRF (United >States) NODC Code
33G5, formerly SEA-LAND HAWAII, NODC Code 33SE; formerly CSX HAWAII,
NODC Code 32H5, radio call sign KIRF, changed to HORIZON HAWAII on May
28, 2003 and never made it into our ship list since it changed to HAWAII
pretty quick. So, the ship HAWAII lists the three former names in the
comments field. I am never quite sure about
>these commercial ships. We get data weekly from the GTSPP project
and/or our Volunteer Ship Observing Program which also feeds the GTSPP
and I don't know how quickly they update the ship name in the on-board
software.
>From me:
>Do I understand you correctly that:
>HAWAII, radio call sign KIRF (United States) NODC Code 33G5 (This is
the ship at present and a new entry you have just allocated?)
>formerly
SEA-LAND HAWAII, NODC Code 33SE; (We have this entry too at ICES)
>formerly
>CSX HAWAII, NODC Code 32H5, radio call sign KIRF, (We will add the
prefix 'CSX' to our entry in the comments field)
>changed to
>HORIZON HAWAII on May 28, 2003 (we don't have this entry either, but
will then list the name as 'former' under
>the new HAWAII 33G5 entry.
Mitch and I are both suspicious that the name as just HAWAII is wrong,
and we might have to change it back at some point!
Best regards,
Susanne
Please note that our internet connection is very very slow at the
moment.
