Dear Roy,

I am working on the French ships looking for information on the Web, and 
I have some questions for you, to be sure
to do what is needed :

Let's take the example of the ship called */Marcel Le Bihan/* for which 
we have 3 cruises in 1973 and 1974 in our database.

I have found the information which is written at the end of this 
message  in French, and summarized just below in "English"

First name /Greif, launched in 1936
in 1947, French navy called her / /Marcel Le Bihan
Then French navy changed her  name into Gustave Zédé 01/01/1978
then /condemned 08/09/1986
/then intentionally sunk 22/06/1990

What should I put in the Excel file you sent me
commissioned : 1936 (under the name of Greif) or 1947 (when called 
Marcel le Bihan)?
decommissioned : 1986? (when condemned)  or 1990 (when sunk?)

Should we add a column "Following name"  like "Previous Name" in the 
excel file ?
Because in that case I know that the Marcel Le Bihan was renamed Gustave 
Zédé, but I do not need to create the Gustave Zédé, because I have no 
data, no cruise related to that ship.

Un *bâtiment d'intervention sous la mer (1948-1986)*, ex aviso-allemand 
mis à flot en 1936 au chantier Stetinner Oderwerke AG (Allemagne) sous 
le nom de /Greif/. Il entre en service en 1937 dans la Marine allemande. 
Saisi par les USA à la fin de la guerre, il est transféré comme aviso à 
la Marine française en 1947, et prend le nom de /Marcel Le Bihan/. A 
partir de 1951, il participe à de multiples opérations en Indochine. Il 
quitte Saïgon le 29 octobre 1952 pour rentrer en France. Reclassé gabare 
en novembre 1959, il est affecté en 1961 au groupe des bathyscaphes. 
C'est dans ce cadre qu'il effectue une campagne aux Açores de juin à 
septembre 1970. En 1975, il est affecté au GISMER. Après le retrait du 
service actif du ravitailleur de sous-marin /Gustave Zédé/, l'état-major 
souhaitant que le nom du brillant inventeur soit encore porté, le 
/Marcel Le Bihan/ est rebaptisé /Gustave Zédé/ le 1er janvier 1978. Le 
13 octobre 1981, après refonte, il est admis au service actif en tant 
que bâtiment d'intervention sous la mer. Condamné le 8 septembre 1986 
(n°Q649), la coque de ce /Gustave Zédé/ est coulée le 22 juin 1990 en 
remorque de l'/Ailette/.
